Gaia Technologies has successfully delivered broadband to the top of Snowdon Mountain. The Snowdon Summit cafe, Hafod Eryri, is the highest cafe in the UK at some 1,085 meters.
The new cafe is part of an £8 million makeover to the visitors’ centre which sits atop the highest mountain in England and Wales. The new, modern building replaces the original 1935 structure which met with harsh criticism from Prince Charles, who described it as “the highest slum in Wales.” The site now houses an educational centre which provides information about the history, geology and ecology of the mountain, walking routes, weather information, and a cafe.
Gaia Technologies has been commissioned to install a wireless link from Bangor to the building on Snowdon and to provide ADSL internet service to the site. The installation will serve the 500,000+ visitors to Hafod Eryri each year.
