RFID

Gaia Technologies has developed the first and only known RFID Location System developed specifically for use in education. The system can operate independently and can also integrate with a variety of MIS systems. Utilising existing wireless networks within a learning centre, the Location system provides management with an effective tool that:
- Enables automatic registration of classroom attendance
- Restricts access to parts of the building’s premises through Access Control
- Tracks and locates students over the day, enabling behavioural analysis, if required
- Tracks and locates assets, enabling effective Asset Management
How it works
Similar technology is used by health authorities for tracking patients and assets, in tracking animals’ origin and genetic history, in logistics such as pallet tracking and in e-passports which makes airport queuing a thing of the past.
At one end, a tag is either:
- Worn as a badge by a student
- Installed internally within an item of equipment that is moved frequently (e.g. projector or laptop)
At the other end, a web based interface provides management with an effective tool for tracking and controlling the location and position of students, and for allocating which areas they are allowed to access.
Benefits for the education sector
- Time saving – registration can be completed in seconds, saving valuable learning time
- Enhanced health and safety – alerts are given when a student has strayed outside an approved zone or has left the premises
- Improved security – hazardous areas such as laboratories can have restricted access
- Reduced theft of portable assets
- Tracking – assets are effectively tracked
- Effective asset deployment – your Asset Management records are immediately updated with information on location of key assets, allowing you to accomplish more effective logistics and usage
