Wireless
Gaia Technologies has established its wireless division in 1999 delivering innovative wireless solutions to Education and Communities ahead of time. The first project was a Wide Area Network covering 800 Sq Miles connecting schools in rural Wales in a partial mesh switched and routed network delivering 11Mbps network for internet access and shared applications. Gaia continued developing its abilities to go on implanting enterprise quality wireless cities and a range of wireless services. Some examples are shown below:
Point to point
Gaia’s point to point links vary in speed from 54mbps to 1.2 Gbps of radio throughput, linking up sites between 100m and 25km utilising frequencies of 5GHz and 70-80GHz.
Applications in the business, education and health sectors include:
- Building to building links
- Last mile access extending fibre
- Camera links
- Leased line backup
Point to multi-point
Gaia utilises point to multi point wireless technologies to deliver a range of speeds and uses, mainly with the 5.4GHz – 5.8GHz frequencies with distances up to 15km.
With Applications in Business, education and NHS these include:
- Linking Campus building and networks
- Providing basic backbone links
- Security Devices
- Community Wireless Broadband Access
- CCTV cameras installations
Wireless Cities
Gaia has implemented many projects in rural areas of the UK covering over 60 towns and villages in Wales and Cumbria connecting thousands of users over its wireless network. In a city implementation Gaia has built a network covering 1/3 of Manchester City, connecting over 4500 homes as part of a project called Eastserve. Similarly Gaia has implemented a project in Aston (Birmingham City) and is currently implementing the whole city of Birmingham covering an area of 26km by 20km.
This network in an enterprise network and is hot spot based similar to many wireless cities around the world. The network utilises a gigabit network backbone of wireless as well as fibre, with a distribution layer running at 54mbps radio connected by fixed wireless nodes. Finally a third layer for WIFI cloud covers the city for mobile users. Gaia has developed a financial model for a successful and sustainable wireless city and currently runs and manages such a network as part of its business. These projects have helped bridge the Digital Divide that exists in some of our cities and rural areas.
Applications for City Councils, business, education and emergency services include:
- Urban networks
- Community broadband access schemes
- Rural community internet access
- Educational Network delivering “Learning Anywhere”
- Security and CCTV networks across a city
- Asset location services
- Mobile users such as Local Government staff connecting back to office applications
- VOIP Communication
- Connecting Emergency Services
What makes Gaia your ideal partner?
The ability to own the complete project from surveying, design, implementation, commissioning and testing and project management, to finally manage, support and commercially run at its own risk, and understand the issues and requirements with a proven track record and tens of thousands of fixed wireless nodes. This is what sets Gaia apart from other wireless network installers in this market and makes Gaia your ideal partner.
